If you are a lover of all things aquatic, then the city of Eilat must find its way onto your list of places to go while you are in Israel. Because of its ideal location on the Gulf of Aqaba (which extends from the Red Sea), Eilat is a terrific place to enjoy different water sports, adventures, and sightseeing.
If you’ve always wanted to try scuba diving, Eilat is a wonderful place for you to get started. Or even if you’re an experienced diver, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea are wonderful diving locations, filled with interesting sights, underwater wildlife, and coral reefs. In fact, the Red Sea is truly known for its amazing abundance of rich marine life with an abundance of colorful fish and coral.
If you’ve never been scuba diving before, Eilat is a good place to try it out because you can take an introductory dive without your certification. There are many reputable diving companies in Eilat from which to choose.
One that always receives great customer reviews is the Red Sea Lucky Divers. This company is the only PADI Gold Palm 5 Star Instructor Development Diving Center in Eilat. To visit the website, click here: http://www.luckydivers.com/english/New%20English%20Site/index.htm
A favorite attraction within Eilat is the Dolphin Reef, which is located on the shore of the Red Sea. The Dolphin Reef is loved by visitors because it allows guests the opportunity to observe, and perhaps even meet or swim with, bottlenose dolphins. The great thing about Dolphin Reef is that this is a whole different experience from just watching dolphins that are kept in captivity.
The setting is a secluded beach, and you get to see the dolphins in their normal daily routines of hunting, playing, and socializing. The Dolphin Reef emphasizes that the dolphins’ contact with humans is based on their free will, not on captivity. Visitors can closely observe the dolphins from floating observation points and piers, or through guided swims and dives.
The Dolphin Reef even offers a number of educational and therapeutic programs, including therapy for children who are afflicted by post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, dyslexia, behavioral problems, down-syndrome, depression, cancer, or have been victims of sexual and physical abuse. If you can’t get enough of underwater sea creatures, then you’re in luck. There’s even more for you to do!
The Underwater Observatory and Marine Park is an awesome place to spend a day. This is the first place in the entire world where sea turtles have been successfully bred in captivity.
Another unique thing about the Underwater Observatory is that it allows you to observe marine life in its own natural habitat. The windows through which you gaze were built about 20 feet below sea level, so you are actually observing natural ocean life within the Red Sea. No one moment is like the next, and you never know what you will get to witness.
In addition, you can observe 40 different aquariums filled with the area’s flora and fauna, each replicating the creatures’ natural environments. Hundreds of different types of fish can be found here, including rare and poisonous fish. Of course you’ll see sharks, too.
And if you visit at 11:00 am, you’ll have a chance to see a brave diver feeding the sharks their daily diet of fish. It is a memorable experience for adults and children alike.
